Placement Service
Placement assistance is an on-going process that begins well in advance of graduation. This is accomplished by providing the student with technical training for industry, teaching the student how to search for job openings, writing a resume, and handling job interviews. This process serves to prepare the student for a challenging career in industry. The Career Services Director works with each successful graduate to match his/her particular qualification to the requirements of prospective employers. Every effort is made to notify graduates of locations and types of employment available. Platt does not guarantee placement, as no ethical institution can.
Career Services
Students are provided with resources (packets, articles, etc) regarding resume building, interview skills, and how to conduct an effective job search. The Professional Development Class is a four day class with the Director of Placement & Career Development during which two full days are devoted to, respectively: how to interview effectively and how to conduct an effective job search. One day is devoted to computer lab time during which the students work directly with the Placement Director on typing cover letters and formatting their resumes.
At the North Campus and Central campuses, Workforce OK makes a visit to the campus and spends at least an hour with the students, registering them on the Oklahoma Job Link. The last day is devoted to mock interviews with the Placement Director. On some campuses (time and student population permitting) the Placement Directors actually format the students’ resumes for them to take away from their class workload.
After graduation, the Placement Directors maintain regular and consistent contact with the graduates, helping them through personal challenges while assisting them with finding employment in which they can utilize the skills they were taught at Platt College. The Placement Directors also assist graduates who have graduated months or years before and call seeking resume help or open job information.
Placement Directors work to develop and maintain contacts in the industry to provide the students and graduates with the best possible extern (while a student) and employment (after graduating) opportunities. This includes frequent campus visits, visits to industry sites, and consistent contact and communication with industry employers. They maintain and update job boards on which job leads, volunteer opportunities, and professional development opportunities for the students are posted.
Other resources such as Suited for Success (providing interview and employment attire for women), employment agencies, and Workforce OK are utilized to provide the student with as much professional and personal assistance as possible.
